Sex Positivity & Character Ages Empty Sex Positivity & Character Ages

This is a necessary post because inevitably this conversation will come up at some point. So I thought I'd start us off by expanding upon some things that were touched upon in the main Forum Rules post.

Sex Positivity
I want this forum to be a sex positive place, where people can write the sexual aspects of their characters or fiction as freely as any other aspect. This is just to clarify that while the rules said this forum is for people who want to write consanguinamory beyond the genre of erotica, this does not mean that your writing cannot contain erotic elements.

Everyone is different and we all have our ways of writing relationships. If you want to express sexual content in your writing, feel free to do so. But there are some basic ground rules with regards to this that we should aim to follow.

Sexual content shouldn't be an issue when it comes to characters that are 18+. It only touches upon a grey area when the characters portrayed are underage. But this is a forum for fiction, and all members are 18+, which is why it's not as complicated an issue as it might be in a place that is for real life experiences.

I suggest that we follow these ground rules when it comes to sexual content:

-Characters under age 14: No explicit descriptions of a sexual nature involving those under the age of 14. So if you have characters under that age who have had sexual experiences or experimentation, minimize the descriptive details in the content you post to the forum... maybe even hint at it without describing.

-Teenagers 14-18: If you have characters between the ages of 14-18 who have sexual experiences, consider putting a trigger warning for those who don't feel comfortable reading about underage people having sex. Keep in mind that the legal age of consent differs from place to place in the real world, and minors are not sexless beings. If you don't like the idea, that's fine, but don't judge others whose material might contain underage sex.

-Adult/Adult pairings (scenes involving characters who are all over the age of 18) You can be as explicit as you want in the portrayal, though it would be nice to give a little notice at the top so people can know what's coming.

Writing containing Adult-Minor relationships are not allowed on this forum.

Edit: I think we can make an exception for minor + young adult relationships with a small age gap (e.g. 4 years age gap) since some start out as teens close in age but one of them is older, so eventually one will be a young adult before the other. So I think this is a grey area for that reason.

So try to stick to these rules in the content you post to the forum. What you ultimately publish outside this forum is your business since you are the writer and it's your content.

Hmmmm. The KS admins would say nothing under age 18, at all, to avoid pedophilia. Shouldn't we use the same standard here? I know there is some debate over this on KS, but I haven't paid much attention to it.

Definitely we don't want to allow adult-minor pairings. At least not consummated ones. Nor grooming. Whatever that means in practice.

I know. But that is KS forum and it's understandable that they make their rules that way because they are talking about people in real life and that can get complicated if they allowed minors in.

Minor-Adult pairings are not allowed on this forum, but I think it's important to allow for pairs that don't have that kind of power imbalance (minor-minor, teenagers close in age). This is so writers can be as free as they want while still maintaining some limit where our sense of meaningful Consent is based on power balance.

That being said, it is fine if people make their separate rules for Roleplays. So if you want only 18+ characters for your roleplay, that's fine. The one rule that applies across the board (to roleplays and exercises) is no minor-adult relationships.
